SET DECORATOR (top)

Membership Requirements

• Television: 20 hours composed of single/and or multiple camera projects, with on screen credit as the set decorator.
• Film: At least 3 features, released either to theaters or Video/DVD.
• Commercials/Music Videos: A minimum of ten national commercials and/or larger scale music videos.
• A resume documenting at least two years experience working exclusively as a set decorator. Credits may include a combination of formats.
• Professional references from five people, two of which must be Set Decorator members of the SDSA. As an alternative to two decorators, applicants may choose to be referred by one Set Decorator member and one Business Member. The other references may include Production Designers, Directors and Producers.

Privileges

• Set Decorator members are voting members of the SDSA.
• They are invited to all events and receive all mailings and e-blasts.
• They are eligible to serve as board members, and participate on committees of the SDSA.
• They are included, with a list of credits on our website.

Yearly fee: $225.00 (tax deductible)

SET DECORATOR RETIREE (Sustaining Membership) (top)

Membership Requirements

• Retirees must be SDSA Set Decorator members before their retirement.

Privileges

• The same as Set Decorators.

ASSOCIATE (top)

Membership Requirements

This non voting category is meant for emerging Set Decorators who can not yet quite meet our Set Decorator membership requirements, as well as those people, such as buyers and lead people, who work closely with the set decorator.

• Applicants must be sponsored by three Set Decorator members, or two Set Decorator members and one Business member, and are required to submit a current resume.
• Each application will be evaluated individually by the membership committee and the board.

Privileges

• Associate members are invited to all events except the decorators only meeting. They may attend the brunch for a discounted fee.
• They are encouraged to serve on SDSA committees. Members in this category do not vote in SDSA elections, and may not serve on the board.
• Associate members are listed on our website and in our membership directory under a separate category. East Coast Associate members who are also union members are not listed in the I.A.T.S.E. Local 52 roster with an SDSA credit.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP (top)

As a way of acknowledging the extraordinary contributions of certain Set Decorators and other members of our community to the SDSA and the field of set decoration, the executive board of the Set Decorators Society of America has created an Honorary SDSA membership. Any executive board member may nominate a prospective Honorary member. The nomination must be approved by a simple majority of the board. Honorary members, although they don’t vote in SDSA elections and cannot serve on the executive board, are invited to all SDSA functions and are encouraged to serve on committees. They are not required to pay any dues.

STUDENT (top)

Membership Requirements

• This non voting category of membership is open to design students and who are not yet working as Set Decorators, but hope, one day, to join our ranks.
• There are no other requirements for membership. Please include a copy of your student identification or class schedule with your application.

Privileges

• Student members are invited to SDSA events during the year.
• They are allowed to attend the brunch for an additional fee.
• They do not vote in the executive board election, and are not listed in our membership directory or website.

Yearly fee: $50.00 (tax deductible)

FRIENDS OF THE SDSA (top)

Membership Requirements

Friends of the SDSA are invited to all SDSA events. Among those who might join this category are Producers, Directors, individual from other film crafts or related design fields and individuals that work for Business members, such as prop house employees, set dressers, art department assistants etc. They may not, themselves, be sponsor or businesses. The Friend category cannot be used for advertising purposes.

• Friends of the SDSA are invited to SDSA events during the year.
• They may attend the brunch for an additional fee. 
• They do not vote in the executive board election, and are not listed in the membership directory or website.

BUSINESS MEMBER(top)

• Individuals or Companies whose businesses interact with set decorators.
• Studios, Facility Rental companies and Locations who rent to production companies.
• Professionals, who rent, sell or provide services to set decorators and designers.
• Educational institutions that provide courses in Set Decoration and/or Production design.
• Non-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
