Beth Wooke in the Set Decorator Spotlight
Day With the Set Decorator October 24th, 2020
Day with the Set Decorator presented a fascinating and informative webinar titled, Set Decorator Secrets
The panel included Emmy® nominated Set Decorators Rae Deslich SDSA, Don Diers SDSA and Ron V. Franco SDSA
Moderated by SDSA Executive Director Gene Cane.
L to R (Top Row) Gene Cane, Rae Deslich SDSA; (Bottom row) Don Diers SDSA, Ron V. Franco SDSA,
The Set Decorators walked attendees through their processes and tricks for
breaking down a script, developing character, layering and nuance.
They talked about how they work and communicate with their teams and production departments, and ways to work with practical locations and stage sets.
The discussion was accompanied by actual show script breakdowns, inspiration boards
and renderings, presentations and set stills demonstrating the process and end results. They shared sourcing tips, resource secrets, and valuable personal experiences.
The 3-hour webinar wrapped up with Rae, 'reading' the character and story that
Ron's 'Zoom room' was telling. Like a good profiler, and talented Set Decorator,
she was spot on!

DAPPER CADAVER
Dapper Cadaver specializes in the Sales, Rentals and Custom Manufacturing of death-related, scientific, horror and Halloween props and decor.
Our inventory includes items that are perfect for supernatural, crime, medical, mortuary, morgue, cemetery, laboratory, apothecary, Halloween and haunted house sets, and more.
Popular items include: fake bodies & body parts; human skulls, skeletons & bones; animal props & skeletons; dinosaur skulls & bones; coffins & caskets; tombstones; medical instruments, autopsy bodies & stunt dummies; specimen jars; curiosities; gothic decor; foam weapons and blood.
We recently moved to Madison, WI to expand our manufacturing facility. We are still here for you in our new location and we've opened up rental accounts to include Canadian productions too!
We maintain a dedicated and growing rental section, including hard to find items and a catalog of in-stock/ready to ship items. We continue to source pieces and are excited to be expanding period props in the near future. Many of our props are made to order at our on-site workshop which allows us to customize props to match actors and specific story elements.
We’ve loved being a part of the entertainment industry for over 14 years, love the work that we do with set decorators, prop masters and the art dept, and look forward to continuing that from a central location.

Oh—and to be able to “turn off” my brain at night... (Sorry to everyone for my “middle of the night” emails...)!!
What do you consider your greatest achievement? Looking back it has to be deciding at 31 years old to quit my good advertising career, move to Los Angeles and become a Set Decorator with no idea how to get a job here. Truly a “Fake it till you make it!” Moment! (Still trying to “make it”, by the way)
Which word or phrase do you use the most? “Perfect”, “I LOVE IT”, “So good”, “Let’s put lipstick on this pig!" (locations usually) - and yes, I know, I swear way too much!
What do you look for on the Craft Services table? Way back in the good ol’ days (pre-COVID-19) —Scoop of Peanut M&Ms and I usually need a fresh coffee... Now, not sure if we have it anymore? Strange year this 2020...
