Day With The Set Decorators: Coffee Klatsch with Set Decorator Vol. 2

DAY WITH THE SET DECORATOR

On June 1st, the SDSA Educational Outreach Committee hosted a round table with Set Decorators Hernan Camacho, Sinead Clancy, Adrianna Lopez, and Regina O'Brien to talk about what it takes to be a Set Decorator in some of today's most watched and even more challenging television shows.

Hernan Camacho SDSA career as Set Decorator has spanned over 30 years, constantly working in all forms of media: feature films, episodic television, commercials, music video, documentaries, short films and promos. Hernan seems to move with great ease from period to contemporary, elegant to grunge and everything in between. His body of work includes Assistant Set Decorator on Dr. Dre's STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON and Set Decorator on critically acclaimed series such as SNOWFALL, THE AFFAIR,  AMERICAN HORROR STORY: 1984, and INSECURE. Hernan is also known for fine home interior designs and office installations. Hernan currently sits on the Board of Directors for the SDSA.

Adrianna Lopez SDSA became a Set Decorator in her second career. In her first career, Adrianna worked as a Public Relations Director for a major television network, Univision. She moved into production as a Set Decoration Buyer on projects such as JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, PRINCESS DIARIES 2: ROYAL ENGAGEMENT, the long running series DEXTER and MEDIUM. Adrianna assumed the role of Set Decorator on the hit series NEW GIRL. She quickly became sought after for stylized television shows such as CHANCE, BONES and currently on the CW series ALL AMERICAN. Her passion for travel, culture, language and food has taken her to great places around the world, which she uses as influence in her sets. Adrianna has designed multiple restaurants and is known for her own personal style. Adrianna sits on her first term of the SDSA Board of Directors.

Regina O’Brien SDSA majored in Art at UCLA and Architecture from Otis College of Art and Design, at which point her studies took her abroad to Madrid, Spain.
However, it was the underground dance clubs that got her into the film industry! The director of the 1987 film LESS THAN ZERO admired the design of the club, and Regina has since been working in Set Decoration and Art Direction for movies, TV series, music video and many commercials. A sample of her credits include episodic BEST WORST WEEKEND EVER, AMERICAN DREAMS, AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, THE RIKKI LAKE SHOW, and the new Ryan Murphy show on FOX, 911: LONE STAR, for which she is about to begin the second Season. Regina has directed documentary short films about Frank Lloyd Wright and the iconic Mulholland Fountain in Los Feliz. She is presently the Chairperson of the Modern Committee of the Los Angeles Conservancy.

Sinead Clancy SDSA comes to us from the Emerald Isle, Ireland, having studied at the National College of Art and Design, subsequently working with Roger Corman.  Arriving in the US, Sinead started working as a Set Decorator and was an instructor at LAFS (Los Angeles Film School) while on hiatus to raise her two children. Her credits include the long running series REBA, MISTRESSES, LETHAL WEAPON and the original 9-1-1 on FOX. Sinead is currently setting up her own ceramics studio and has returned to oil painting over our COVID-19 forced hiatus. But rest assured, she and her crew are eager to return to 9-1-1, Season 4. Sinead has lectured at many colleges in Ireland and works closely with Women in Media.

Wow, What a panel!  If you missed it, and would like to watch what these talented Set Decorators had to say, please email us at DWSD@setdecorators.org for more information.
