MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in joining the Set Decorators Society of America, an International Organization.
 
We are proud of our diverse, award-winning membership, from across North America: US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico; and around the world: the UK, Italy, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Spain, France, Australia and New Zealand.
 
Our members include Set Decorators on Films, Television & Streaming shows & series, Commercials and Music Videos; Buyers and Assistant Set Decorators on those productions, as well as Leads and Set Dressers; Businesses who serve the Set Decoration Community; Students of Set Decoration; Retired Set Decorators; Friends of the SDSA and Honorary Members.

SET DECORATOR
Set Decorator Membership Requirements:
· A resume documenting at least two years experience working exclusively as a Set Decorator
· Credits may include a combination of formats to be considered by the Board of Directors
· The Board may consider a qualified body of work that warrants an exception to the above requirements
· Television: 20 hours minimum, composed of single and/or multiple camera projects. Screen credit as Set Decorator
· Film: Minimum of 3 features, released to theaters, streaming and/or DVD. Screen credit as Set Decorator
· Commercials/Music Videos: Minimum of ten national commercials and/or larger-scale music videos
· Five Professional references, two from current Set Decorator Members, or one Set Decorator Member and one Business Member. The additional references may include non-members such as Production Designers, Directors and Producers
 
NOTE: if your Set Decoration credits do not yet meet these criteria, we welcome you to apply for Associate Membership. As your career builds, you can transition to full Set Decorator Membership status.
Set Decorator Member Privileges

  • Voting Member of the SDSA
  • Welcome at Member events for networking, information exchange and celebration of our art form
  • Invitation to the annual Awards, at a discounted Member rate
  • Featured on SDSA Website and in our Membership directory: Individual member page to which member can upload a list of credits, set photos, resume, and links to personal website and IMDB
  • New York members who are union members are listed in the I.A.T.S.E. Local 52 roster with an SDSA credit, to identify their specialty in this mixed Local
  • Eligible for coverage of released Set Decoration work in SETDECOR, on SDSA Social Media, interviews, illustrated articles, panels, and spotlight events
  • Receive mailings and e-blasts, including THE BUZZ, SETDECOR article announcements, and exclusive news you can use to stay informed and connected
  • Eligible to serve on the Board of Directors
  • Eligible to participate on SDSA Committees, including: Awards, Community Outreach, Education & Day With the Set Decorator, Membership, Website & Social Media, Events, and Development

Annual dues: $250.00 (tax deductible)

SET DECORATOR RETIREE 

Set Decorator Retiree Membership Requirements:

  • Retirees must be SDSA Set Decorator Members before their retirement

Set Decorator Retiree Member Privileges:

  • Same as Set Decorators

Annual dues: $125.00 (tax deductible)

ASSOCIATE

This non-voting category (See exception below) welcomes qualified Buyers, Leads, Set Dressers and emerging Set Decorators who do not yet meet our Set Decorator membership requirements.
Associate Membership Requirements:
·       Applicants to be sponsored by three Set Decorator members, or two Set Decorator Members and one Business Member
·       A current resume

  • Each application will be evaluated individually by the membership committee and the Board of Directors

Associate Member Privileges:

  • Welcome at Member events for networking, information exchange, and celebration of our art form, with the exception Set Decorators-only meetings
  • Invitation to the annual Awards, at a discounted Member rate
  • Eligible to participate on SDSA Committees, including: Awards, Community Outreach, Education & Day With the Set Decorator, Membership, Website & Social Media, Events, and Development
  • Associate members are listed on our website and in our Membership directory
  • Receives mailings and e-blasts, including THE BUZZ, SETDECOR article announcements, and exclusive news you can use to stay informed and connected
  • Up to two (2) Board seats are reserved for Associate Members. These Board members can vote in SDSA elections, but otherwise, Associate Members do not vote

Annual dues: $175.00 (tax deductible)

BUSINESS MEMBER

Does your Business seek to sell or rent products to the Entertainment Design world, or to get products placed in a Film or Television production?
 
SDSA Business membership provides the opportunity to promote your business, and offers you the ideal marketplace to network with Set Decorators in the Motion Picture, Television, Streaming, Commercial and Music Video industries.

Business Membership types:

  • Individuals or Companies whose businesses interact with Set Decorators
  • Studios, Facility Rental companies, and Locations who rent to production companies
  • Professionals who rent, sell or provide services to Set Decorators and Designers
  • Educational institutions that offer classes in Set Decoration and/or Production Design
  • Non-profit and not-for-profit organizations

Business Membership Requirements

  • The Business caters entirely or in part to the Set Decoration Industry

Business Member Privileges

  • Welcome at SDSA Member events for networking, information exchange, and celebration of our art form
  • Invitation to the annual Awards, at a discounted Member rate
  • Featured on SDSA Website and in our Membership directory: can upload business offerings, photos, and links to Business website
  • Opportunities to market to your target audience—the Set Decoration community—at discounted member rates
  • Entitled to one free E-Blast per year with Membership
  • Receives mailings and e-blasts, including THE BUZZ, SETDECOR article announcements, and exclusive news you can use to stay informed and connected
  • Up to five (5) Board seats are reserved for Business Members. These Board members can vote in SDSA elections, but otherwise, Business Members do not vote
  • Eligible to participate on SDSA Committees, including: Awards, Business Members, Community Outreach, Education & Day With the Set Decorator, Membership, Website & Social Media, Events, and Development

Annual dues: Determined per category of Business membership
Varies according to the size of the Business, ranging from individual artists to intermediate sized businesses with a dozen or so employees, to large film studios.

FRIEND OF THE SDSA

This non-voting category of membership is open to Producers, Directors, those from film arts and crafts outside of the Set Decoration department, or related design fields, and those who work for Business Members, such as prop house employees. They may not, themselves, be sponsors or businesses.
The Friend category cannot be used for advertising of services to the Set Decoration Industry: Please use the Business Member application for this purpose.
Friends Membership Requirements

  • Applications are considered by the Board of Directors on a case-by-case basis

Friends Member Privileges

  • Welcome at Member events for networking, information exchange, and celebration of our art form
  • Opportunities to network by volunteering with events and committees
  • Invitation to the annual Awards, at a discounted Member rate
  • Receives mailings and e-blasts, including THE BUZZ, SETDECOR article announcements, and exclusive news you can use to stay informed and connected

Note: This membership category does not vote in the Board election, and are not listed in our membership directory or website.

STUDENT MEMBER

This non-voting category of membership is open to design students who hope one day to work as Set Decorators or in the field of Set Decoration.
Student Membership Requirements:

  • A copy of the Student Identification card or document, and/or a class schedule

Student Member Privileges:

  • Welcome at Member events for networking, information exchange, and celebration of our art form, with the exception of Set Decorators-only meetings
  • Opportunities to network by volunteering with events and committees
  • Invitation to the annual Awards, at a discounted Member rate
  • Receives mailings and e-blasts, including THE BUZZ, SETDECOR article announcements, and exclusive news you can use to stay informed and connected

Note: This membership category does not vote in the Board election, nor listed in our membership directory or website.
Annual dues: $55.00 (tax deductible)

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP

Honorary Membership acknowledges extraordinary contributions to the SDSA and the field of Set Decoration.
 
Select Set Decorators and members of our community are occasionally invited to Honorary Membership.
 
Any Executive Board member may nominate a prospective Honorary Member.
 
The nomination must be approved by a simple majority of the Board.
 
This category of membership does not vote in SDSA elections and is ineligible to serve on the executive board,
 
Honorary Members are invited to all SDSA functions and are encouraged to serve on committees.
 
 Not required to pay dues.
 
If there is someone you would like to promote as an Honorary Member, please submit your candidate to a current SDSA Board member for consideration.
