Jeannie Gunn SDSA

Jeannie Gunn, a dedicated leader of the SDSA for many years, passed away on
December 28th, 2016.

Born into the business - her father introduced her to the property department at MGM in 1979 -  Gunn helped define the look of contemporary decades from the late 70's through the mid 2o00's.

Personal commitment to the betterment of her craft and community led Gunn to take leadership roles in the SDSA, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and IATSE Local 44 on behalf of set decorators and their profession. She served as Governor to the Television Academy of Arts & Sciences, representing the Art Directors/Set Decorators Peer Group, a position she held for four years. She was then elected by the Governors to serve on the Executive Board of the Academy, as well as Chair of the Board for the SDSA and a Trustee of IATSE Local 44.

Quietly sophisticated, known for deep understanding and clarity, calmness, a wry sense of humor and an ability to mediate, Jeannie Gunn was recognized in 2010 with the Set Decorators Society of America’s highest honor, the Earl Cooperman Lifetime Achievement Award.

In a Few Words...

Which talent would you most like to have?
Tap dance. Anytime I'm in line at the bank or the post office, waiting in line for a train or subway, the urge to dance around the hall comes on but the talent doesn't inspire the brain to move the feet!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Achievement. That's a loaded word. I think of things that I haven't so much accomplished but learned, and think it's how to listen, how to see and how to appreciate the flip side of things.

Which word or phrase do you most overuse?
Cool...Howdy

What do you look for on the Craft Services table?
Sliced pineapple!  It's a mystery to me how to skin or core that fruit!

Please name a benefit of being an SDSA member.
Love "THE BUZZ." I'm always curious to read about others' adventures in movie making.
I appreciate the SDSA as a way to keep connected with everyone and I value the information that the SDSA supplies to its members. I remember a great meeting early on when a business lawyer came to answer our questions on negotiating deals and contracts. Also, a questionnaire circulated to anonymously compare wages, perks, raises and protecting our crews.
Efforts like that on our behalf are so welcome.
Thanks SDSA!
