Emmy® Nominees Party
Universal Studios Art Departments
September 12th, 2019
Universal Studios backlot European Street was transformed into the French Riviera
for a celebration of this years Creative
Arts Emmy® nominees.

Hosted by the Universal Studios Art Departments, guests gathered and mingled
enjoying cocktails and cuisine from the Universal Studios Special Events team and

Wolfgang Puck Catering. Emmy nominated teams were presented, honored and wished well. And it wouldn't be a party without raffled prizes and dancing under the stars!

A big Merci Beaucoup to Universal Art Departments Beverly Hadley, Krista Bolling
and Christina Sepulveda for a beautiful evening!

Thank you also to the SDSA Business Members who contributed to this event;
Day With the Set Decorator
August 24th, 2019
A very special Day With the Set Decorator: Master Class was held at L.A. Center Studios.
Students interested in set decoration had the opportunity to sit-in on an
exclusive panel discussion on fabrication for film.

Moderated by SDSA Executive Director Gene Cane, the esteemed panel included SDSA
Set Decorators Susan Benjamin, Jan Pascale, Ellen Brill
and
Rosemary Brandenburg.   Each presented a behind the scenes insider look at one of their films, and attendees had the opportunity for a Q&A with the panel. The experiences and knowledge shared was invaluable to those entering the craft.

Thank you to the moderator and panelists, SDSA Educational Outreach Committee
Co-Chairs Natalie Contreras and Cynthia McCormac and their committee members.
Thank you also to the day's docents and to Los Angeles Center Studios for a remarkable and memorable event!
GMM At Pinacoteca
August 22nd, 2019

Come on in, the water is fine!

Aloha and thank you to Tija Zamparelli of Pinacoteca Picture Props and Richard Scotten of Propcart who dove in to co-host the August SDSA General Membership Meeting.

Members donned their best island attire for this Sharknado-Luau, enjoying tropical beverages and a Polynesian buffet before getting down to business. Jaws were dropping over the delicious and colorful tropical frozen ices wheeled out after the meeting. The perfect treat on this balmy evening.

Thank you also to the SDSA International Business Members
who contributed to the evening;

MEANDER INDIA

Meander India is an online store selling hand crafted quilts from India.

These
colorful, reversible, one of a kind quilts are
hand sew
n by women in rural India from vintage
cotton saris.

This art of artistically arranging, hand stitching and repurposing fabric has been passed down and
practiced for generations.

We travel to India to hand select the quilts from
ethical sources.

Use these beautiful textiles on your set as a quilt,
blanket, throw, or hung as an art piece.

Meander India is based in Los Angeles. We are happy
to make arrangements,
if you would like to see any of
the quilts in person.

In a Few Words...

Which talent would you most like to have?
The talent I would most like to have is to be able
to play
piano.  I bought one when I moved into my
current house 18 years ago and so far, nothing.
Maybe once I retire.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I think my greatest achievement was working on FRASIER for 11 years. Such an amazing show and
great group of people. Lot of fun sets for which we
were nominated for Emmys four times and finally
won the last time.

Which word or phrase do you most overuse?
The word I overuse most isn’t really a word.
More of a sound and I’m not sure how to spell it.   Ucchhhh.

What do you look for on the Craft Services table?
Lately it’s been these really evil chocolate chip cookies, sometimes warm out of the oven with macadamia nuts, oats, and coconut. So good!

Please name a benefit of being an SDSA member.
The biggest benefit of being an SDSA member has
been meeting and talking to (and drinking with!)
other decorators and business members in a social setting.  Before the SDSA, you’d see other decorators
in prop houses, but never really meet and chat.
