In this issue: SDSA Event and News Coverage,
and Rena DeAngelo is in the Set Decorator Spotlight
This season's amazing SDSA Emmy Party was hosted by Business Member H.D. ButtercupChad Norris and the Downtown Los Angeles location crew, including Hallie Sand, put on a most fabulous white-draped do. In using little decoration around the HD Buttercup showroom, Chad allowed the flowing white-clad party attendees to become the event decoration, very clever indeed.
Thank you to the SDSA Business Members who have contributed to this exceptional event—without our Business Members giving so generously in goods, services, donations, discounts and gifts, we could not have these amazing parties. Show your Business Members how much you appreciate them!
A link to more photo coverage of the party is available at Press/News on the SDSA website.
Day with the Set Decorator - Master Class

SDSA Business Member Warner Bros. Property Department hosted the first-ever Day with the Set Decorator Master Class!  Forty-six students from area college design programs had an opportunity to be mentored through the process: learning the character and time period of the story, planning the decor and shopping, then preparing their image boards and presenting their plan.  Thank you to  Amy Hilker and Chris Dechert , DWSD coordinators Daryn Reid Goodall, William DeBiasio and Natalie Contreras, and to the Set Decorator docents and volunteers who helped to make this first Master Class a grand success!  We're already looking forward to the next one!

Mark your calendar for the WestEdge Design Fair!

The SDSA is presenting a panel discussion again this year at the WestEdge Design Fair,
on Saturday, November 5th, 5:00pm

Defining Character: When Your Client Is A Script

Interior designers have the luxury of interviewing their clients to get a sense of the environment they will create. Set decorators must develop characters from reading the script. This panel covers the process a set decorator undergoes to take characters from the page to the stage, creating environments for the story. Depending on the character, a set decorator must go into cutting-edge retail or look to a future that does not even exist, therefore setting trends. Four renowned set decorators share their stories. This is how they do it.

Moderated by: Ruth Tooker, Architectural Digest
Featuring: Rosemary Brandenburg SDSA (Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), The Hateful Eight, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Unstoppable); William DeBiasio SDSA (Pretty Little Liars, Famous In Love, Chuck, Melrose Place); K.C. Fox SDSA (Criminal Minds, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Rock of Ages, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Tara Stephenson-Fong SDSA (School of Rock, Over Her Dead Body, Haunted Hathaways, That 70s Show)

Come on out and support the SDSA, and hear a great discussion about
the craft from some wonderful SDSA members!

Advance tickets can be purchased here, as well as on the day of the show.

In a Few Words...

Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I could speak another language. I would love to speak Italian or French fluently so that I could have an actual conversation and not just order a glass of wine and some pasta.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement, ask me again in a few years.

Which word or phrase do you most overuse?
I say OH MY GOD a lot! Either in a really happy "Oh My God that looks great", or a horrified, "Oh My God now what?"

What do you look for on the Craft Services table?
Swedish Fish
