General Membership Meeting
November 12 , 2020

Even during a pandemic Warner Bros. Studios came though and hosted the November GMM. Broadcasting  live on Zoom from the Property Department, this was the first ever live-feed virtual meeting for the SDSA.

Viewers were welcomed by the masked dynamic duo of prop house Director Robert Greenfield and SDSA Executive Director Gene Cane.

Gene started off the meeting by introducing viewers to Nancy Niksic SDSA, the in-house Shopper and Decorator for all productions shopping within Warner Bros. Property Dept, with a fun get-to-know-you interview.

Next up, Robert gave some history and led Gene and, virtually, all of us on a personal tour of the prop house, injecting fascinating facts and anecdotes along the way. This included highlighting a famous pair of chandeliers that, as he said, "You have to have won 4 Academy Awards to rent these chandeliers!"
Business Member JoAnn Vara (Bridge Props) who was producing the live event was also pulled in front of the camera for a few words.  JoAnn is now handling Business Member ad sales. She's getting to everyone, no small task, but you can always reach out to her to learn how to advertise with the SDSA!

Rosemary Brandenburg talked about the newly launched SDSA website revamp, letting members know about all of the work that had gone into the makeover and inviting everyone to log on and take a look.
If you haven't yet done so, be sure to check it out!  SDSA Website
In a very poignant moment, Gene presented Amy Hilker with flowers and heartfelt thanks from all of us for her continued and immense support during her tenure as Manger, Business Development at Warner Bros. Entertainment. Amy, we love you and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Wrapping up the meeting, SDSA Board President Laura Richarz announced and introduced new members.

Thank you to Robert and Amy for a fun and special meeting.  We look forward to the day we can all come back to the prop house and get together in person, and see your beautiful faces!

Additional thanks to Chase Helzer and Alexandra Olson for their production services and to Sandy Rose Floral for the beautiful flowers.

AAMSCO LIGHTING INC.

Founded in 1975, Aamsco knows a thing or two about lighting!

Featuring the ORIGINAL FERROWATT VINTAGE LIGHT BULBS, Aamsco Lighting carries a wide variety
of specialty lighting products to meet your needs.

Accurately detailed exactly like the originals invented by Thomas Alva Edison, these antique light bulbs are authentic right down to their carbon, looped filaments and hand-exhausted tips.

In the early 1990’s, Communism in Eastern Europe had fallen and Bob Rosenzweig, founder of Aamsco Lighting, visited the Czech Republic. Here, he discovered the commemorative postage stamp for Ferrowatt Lamps. The stamp showed a building that still stood (it was used as a Socialist book warehouse throughout the Communist period). Since then and with great success, Aamsco Lighting has been working to re-establish the Ferrowatt brand, reproducing light bulbs and vintage light fixtures.

Ferrowatt’s historic lamps are just the right finishing touch of authenticity to Victorian and Art Nouveau fixtures. Ideal for film sets that include museums, historical projects, traditional hotels and period pieces,

Aamsco vintage light bulbs can be seen in
CIDER HOUSE RULES, THE GREEN MILE and
THE ILLUSIONIST.

In a Few Words...

Which talent would you most like to have?
I would like to be able to cure COVID-19. It’s a horrid challenging time we are all living through.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I don’t know what my greatest achievement is, I hope I never know. I like to be thought of as someone who passes the ball (Ted Lasso reference there).

Which word or phrase do you use the most?
"Hi there, mate." or "That’s a brilliant idea, let's do it!"

What do you look for on the Craft Services table?
Coffee and chocolate

Please name a benefit of being an SDSA member.
I like being able to support our craft and the people in it.  SDSA provides a great forum to do that. A big round of applause to everyone involved in keeping the organization going, their commitment is inspiring.

Spark of Love

Since 2009, the SDSA has participated in the ABC7 Spark of Love toy drive.
From now until December 24th 2020, you can go online and order items or make a donation to help bring Holiday Cheer to a child really needing some joy.

Knowing that our own members have suffered through the lack of work and business closures, we ask only to do what you can to help lighten the spirit.
HOW TO DONATE
You have a choice of 3 different opportunities to participate, whether selecting a toy or simply making a donation.
Thank you for helping us bring joy to children, especially this year!
