SDSA members gathered for a Potluck Luncheon, bringing side dishes and desserts to add to the meal provided by Faux Library. Friends caught up, new members were introduced and SDSA President Laura Richarz filled us in on all of the work that's gone on since we last saw each other. The website was overhauled, online meetings brought members together in one place from all over the world, Day With the Set Decorator went online from Atlanta for the first time and the SDSA Awards were successfully launched!
Executive Director Gene Cane was the Master of the Raffle, pulling tickets for delicious gift baskets provided by Faux Library and a gift certificate to The Last Bookstore from Dapper Cadaver
Charitable donations were made to Studio City Chamber of Commerce's Adopt a Senior Program. This year they will be providing blankets and grocery gift cards this holiday.
A big thank you to our gracious host Marc E. Meyer Jr. and Faux Library Studio Props!

Newel Props
They were puttin' on the ritz at Newel Props last Friday night!
It's clear that Newel's Christine Murray and 1RentPlace's Jake Baer know how to throw a great party and lucky for us photographer Steve Conrad caught it on camera! (These photos are just the tip of the iceberg! For more, check out Newel Props social media.)
Old friends and new enjoyed a beautiful setting turned out for the holidays, along with a selection of scrumptious nibbles and spirits, and a gift bag to boot!
Thank you Newel Props!

Green Store Inc. /MGP™
Green Store Inc./MGP™ was established in 1997.
Since then, we have grown from providing outdoor products such as pergolas, fences and trellises to include indoor products, furniture, wall and ceiling covers.
We only carry products made with natural sustainable materials. We can customize many of our products for your set decoration needs.
We use multiple colors and species of bamboo in our product line. Bamboo is durable and elegant. It is versatile, and can be used in modern, minimalistic or tropical settings.
The willow used in our products grow quickly and are sustainably farmed. Willow fences and hurdle panels convey old world charm, and are very popular for medieval settings.
We offer a beautiful line of Plantation teak wood products, suitable for both indoors and outdoors.
Additionally, we build reclaimed oak wine barrel furniture, bar and wine room decor. Great for farmhouses, westerns, bars and more.

I would love to be able to illustrate at a professional
level — like the folks who work at Marvel and Lucasfilm. I’m always blown away by their artistry.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? I’ve had some lovely moments professionally of which I’m very satisfied, but helping create the SDSA Awards (both Film and Television) has been deeply rewarding. It’s an event that’s helped legitimize our organization on a new level, and has enormous growth potential.
Which word or phrase do you use the most?
When we’re in the zone at work, virtually all sentences are preceded by, “Dude,…”
Examples: “Dude, seriously?” “Dude, check this.”
And variants such as, “Whatcha think, Dude?”
What do you look for on the Craft Services table?
I’m the guy that opens the refrigerator and stares inside with a kind of existential dread, wishing for something brilliant to emerge. The whole situation has flipped due to Covid, so no one seems to linger unnecessarily at crafty.
Please name a benefit of being an SDSA member.
I’d place myself squarely in the artist introvert lane, so until I joined the Board at SDSA, I was always a fringe player. When I was first approached to join the Board,
I hesitated. A fellow member best put it (paraphrasing): Many of us have benefitted from the work of generations that came before us. In our successes (and failures) we’ve gained a wealth of knowledge that’s important to share with others.
The Board members generously allowed me to circle the campfire and listen to their discussions, until I felt comfortable enough to contribute. The reception I’ve received has been so warm and appreciative. The SDSA and SDSA Business membership are really decent people who have an interest in promoting our craft and the businesses who support us.
For folks who haven’t availed themselves of the opportunities of membership — because all our lives get busy, and the demands of our careers can be quite exhausting — if you can carve out some slice of time to contribute, the benefits of service are immeasurable,
and you will meet some lovely people along the way.
It’s a tough business, and we need as many friends and colleagues as we can get.
