In a Few Words...

Which talent would you most like to have?
Lately, I draw notes and ideas constantly in my work books. I do this to relax, and to convey my thoughts on set dressing.  Similarly my experience allows me to pull from proven solutions achieved over a 30 year career, however as an introvert, I wish I had the talent to promote myself better so people could see my work.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I believe my greatest achievement has yet to happen however, when I see my children, there’s really no greater comparison. Designing and receiving a patent on a best selling keyboard that Microsoft ultimately adopted, was a close second.

Which word or phrase do you most overuse? The phrase I use often, is also my mantra, “If I’m not learning, I’m not growing.”  I look to every job as an opportunity to immerse myself in something I was unfamiliar with before.
What do you look for on the Craft Services table?
Recently, I’ve been binging on
HoneyCrisp apples, but I won’t pass up toasting a bagel with some strawberry cream cheese. I’m partial to Nestle’s 100Grand Chocolate Bars, and will squirrel away as many as my jacket pocket will hold.

Please name a benefit of being an SDSA member. I believe the biggest benefit to being a new SDSA member is meeting other set decorators that I’ve admired for years but never had the courage to introduce myself. The SDSA events encourage comradery, and I feel very welcomed. The Society has allowed me to shed a competitive trait that didn’t really help me grow as an individual; at least not as much growth as supporting fellow decorators, and sharing with them my sources. You get more when you give more, as I’ve learned on the Day With A Set Decorator seminars. They are in my opinion, often more satisfying for me, than for some of the students enrolled in the Masters’ Program.
